Bike Helmets With Bluetooth – 6 of The Best

It’s always nice to go out for a Sunday afternoon cycle through the park or the back streets with my earplugs connected to my phone.

That was until I got my new bike helmet with Bluetooth and built-in speakers. No more wires running down my neck through my shirt to the phone. All wireless now. Awesome!

Bluetooth Symbol

We’ve certainly come a long way since the days of the Sony Walkman (anyone remember them?), a cassette tape, and wired ear-plugs. At least we don’t have to worry about our cassettes being chewed up or the music running slow as the batteries died.

Nowadays, it’s simply a case of pairing your devices and recharging via micro-USB.

But, not only can we enjoy the convenience of having hours of music at our disposal, plus the built-in speakers in our helmet, but these bicycle helmets with Bluetooth are totally CPSC and CE safety certified just like any regular helmet.

1. Sena R1 Smart Cycling Helmet

When it comes to bike helmets with Bluetooth, Sena Bluetooth helmets are one of the most popular which is probably why we have two of them on our list. I make no apologies for that.

The Sena R1 Smart Cycling helmet is first on our list due to its high ratings and positive reviews, not to forget that it is also nicely priced.

The Sena R1 Smart Cycling helmet is available from Amazon.

The built-in speakers are not ear-plugs or ear-muffs, but instead are built-in to the shell of the helmet thus allowing you to not only listen to your music or phone calls but also be totally aware of the day-to-day sounds going on around you. That is very important from a safety point of view.

Your microphone is also built-in to the shell and sits just above your eyes, yet with Sena’s Advanced Noise Control, wind and other background sounds are filtered out making conversations clear.

When cycling as a group, you can have up to 4 headsets connected via Bluetooth to enjoy intercom chat. The intercom feature has a range of up to 900 meters (980 yards) under optimal conditions.

You can take advantage of so much more by pairing your Sena R1 helmet to your phone. Listen to your phone’s music collection, or listen to your helmet’s inbuilt FM radio, answer important phone calls while riding, hear GPS navigation directions, or get audio feedback from your phone’s fitness apps.

The Sena R1 Smart Cycling Helmet may be full of the latest technology but it also provides the comfort, durability, and safety that you would expect from a traditional helmet.

Comprising an in-mold polycarbonate shell with an EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) foam liner for your safety, on the inside is removable and washable padding for your comfort.

At the rear of the helmet is a spin-to-fit lock size adjuster to give you a customized fit.

The Lithium Polymer Battery can be fully charged in 2.5 hours and can provide you with a talk time of up to 12 hours. Available in 3 sizes ranging from 50 – 62 cm (19 5/8″ – 24 1/2″), and five colors, the Sena R1 helmet is both CPSC and CE safety certified.

2. Livall BH51M-Neo Smart Bike Helmet

A good-looking helmet with a lot to offer from a reputable company. The Livall BH51M-Neo Smart Bike Helmet comes with speakers, microphone, PTT (push to talk) walkie talkie communications, Bluetooth pairing to your phone, ability to send an SOS alert in the case of an accident, auto sensor LED lights including left and right turn signals.

The Livall BH51M-Neo Smart helmet is available from Amazon.

With the Windbreak Microphone and Bluetooth Speakers, you can make and receive phone calls hands-free, listen to music, or chat with your riding partners using the walkie-talkie. The inductive LED lights will turn on automatically when it starts to get dark.

The Livall BH51M helmet is available in Medium and Large sizes ranging between 55 – 61 cm (21.65” to 24”). And, of course, it has the requisite CPSC and CE safety certifications.

Don’t confuse this helmet with the Livall BH51T which doesn’t have speakers, microphone, or walkie talkie. However, it does have Bluetooth so it also can utilize the SOS alerting system, as well as the smart LED and turn signals.

It is also worth noting that for the SOS alert system to work (i.e automatically send a message in the event of an accident), it must be paired to your smartphone which must be connected to the internet.

The battery has a charge time of 2 hours and can provide light time of up to 10 hours, but multi-functional usage will reduce working time down to 3 – 6 hours.

Founded in 2014, Livall has won numerous awards for their innovative smart helmet technology, yet it seems short-sighted to have limited the BH51M to just one size when it has so much to offer. Reviews and ratings of the Livall BH51M Smart Bike Helmet are very good.

3. Sena X1 Smart Cycling Helmet

The Sena X1 and Sena X1S have all the same features. The only difference is the helmet shape. The Sena X1 helmet has a round shape, while the Sena X1S has an oval shape.

So, if you’re missing out on features on other helmets due to your head shape, now you can enjoy all the main features regardless of head shape.

The Sena X1 Smart helmet is available from Amazon.

Both of these Sena Bluetooth helmets offer all the benefits of a traditional modern helmet in terms of safety, being CPSC 1203 and CE 1078 certified.

Created with an in-mold polycarbonate shell with an EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) foam liner, and an eco-leather chin strap for comfort, the large ventilation ports will keep your head cool while enjoying your ride.

The Sena X1 and Sena X1S have a built-in microphone with Advanced Noise Control, and speakers which allow you to hear and be aware of the sounds around you.

Pair your helmet with your phone via Bluetooth to listen to music, receive phone calls, receive audible GPS and fitness prompts from apps on your phone. Or you can choose to listen to your helmet’s built-in FM radio.

Connect with up to 3 friend’s wearing a similar helmet to enjoy group intercom chats while riding. You can also share your music with one other rider via intercom. Your intercom has a range of up to 900 meters (980 yards).

Your Lithium Polymer battery needs only 3.5 hours to be fully charged, and you can then enjoy up to 16 hours of talk time. The Sena Utility App is available for both iPhone and Android smartphones.

The Sena X1 and X1S are available in 2 sizes ranging from 55 to 62 cm (21 3/4″ – 24 1/2″).

While the majority of reviews and ratings for this helmet are good, there seems to be a common theme regarding sizing, and that the sizes seem to run small. Some people saying that they measured for a Small helmet but ended up having to buy a Medium to get a proper fit.

Also, keep in mind the helmet’s shapes. If you have a round head, you probably need the X1, and for an oval (oblong) shaped head, go for an X1S.
